Anthropological Research Labs

People have always noticed the patterns in each other. We study them with care.

ANTHRL studies the recurring ways people perceive, decide and act, at work, in teams and across roles, and builds carefully tested tools to measure them. Our first instrument is the ICA, a free behavioral-preference assessment with published scoring.

Old patterns, new evidence

Across history, people have named the roles they see in one another: the one who reads the signs, the one who builds the tools, the one who keeps the peace, the one who acts first. ANTHRL treats these long-observed patterns as hypotheses, and tests them with modern measurement. The history of personality types shows how often the same few patterns reappear, and why each era needed better evidence than the last.

The ICA in one minute

The ICA (Integrative Cognitive Assessment) presents 40 situations, each with four responses, and asks what you would actually do. Your choices produce four dimension scores that always add up to 40, three faculty scores, one of 24 profiles and an Orientation Strength Index. It takes about 15 minutes, needs no account, and your answers stay in your browser.

Integrative Synthesis

Seeing patterns and wholes. The tracker, the astronomer, the strategist.

The 24 profiles

Every profile is one ordering of the four dimensions, from strongest to weakest.

See all 24 profiles

The ICA is a self-report behavioral-preference assessment, and its accuracy is currently being studied. It is not a clinical, medical or diagnostic test, does not measure intelligence or cognitive ability, and does not screen for any condition.

All 24 profiles

Each profile is one ordering of the four dimensions. Here they are, grouped by the dimension that ranks first.

Research you can check

The ICA's accuracy is currently being studied, and we publish the work as it happens: the study protocol, a claims ledger that tags every claim we make, and an instrument changelog. Universities and organizations can take part in the study.

Three ways to work with the ICA

Start with the book

AICP, the ICA textbook, as a PDF for $296: the model, scoring, test standards and appropriate use.

The AICP textbook

For professionals

ICA Certification, $1,998 once, then the ICA Practitioner License, $998 a year, to use the ICA with clients and teams.

The professional path

For institutions

The Institutional License, $120,000 a year: the ICA across your organization under one agreement.

The Institutional License

We sell at most 3,000 AICP textbooks a year, and issue at most 300 certifications, 300 practitioner licenses, 300 advisory engagements and 300 institutional licenses a year. These are real limits on what we can support well; we do not run countdowns or claim seats are running out. Prices rise 10% each year. A price you have paid stays fixed for the period you paid for; the increase applies from your next renewal, and we tell you before it does. Full prices and terms.

How we work

  • Published scoring. Anyone can see how answers become scores (how ICA scoring works).
  • Claims we can show. Every claim about the ICA carries a status in the claims ledger.
  • Clear limits. The appropriate-use guidance says where the ICA helps and where it should not be used.
  • No invented proof. No testimonials, ratings or results we cannot show.

Questions

What does ANTHRL stand for?

Anthropological Research Labs. We study long-observed human patterns of perceiving, deciding and acting, and test them with modern measurement.

Who publishes the ICA?

ICAPsychometrics, a business of ANTHRL. You take the free ICA on icapsychometrics.com.

Is the ICA validated?

Not yet. Its accuracy is currently being studied. The study protocol sets out what we are testing and how.
